In July 2018 I visited the Rheims-region for a reportage about champagne for De Morgen Magazine. Together with a group of journalists I also went to a vineyard of Piper-Heidsieck. But unfortunately in July there nothing going on at a vineyard.
So I decided to contact the PR of Piper-Heidsieck who I met during the visit. And I went back on my own during harvest season, Les Vendanges, when the entire Champagne-region is buzzing of activity and seasonal workers from all over Europe are working in the vineyards. Les Coupeurs pick the grapes in 50kg crates. Les Pressureurs press them in traditional wooden baskets. Two days of photographing hard manual labour.
